Fledermaus Day

On the 151st anniversary of the first performance of Die Fledermaus, Johann Strauss’ most celebrated operetta will be batting its way through Vienna in a variety of guises. An intriguing programme for all bat-lovers young and old.

5 April 1874 saw the first performance of Strauss’ best-known operetta at the Theater an der Wien. From there it went on to enchant audiences all over the world. 2025 is the 151st anniversary of that triumphant premiere and Johann Strauss 2025 Vienna is dedicating a whole day of events in and around the MuseumsQuartier to a celebration of the life-enhancing masterwork and the fly-by-nights that give it its name. The events range from flying experiments, performances for young audiences and an audio-visual mapping show to new musical arrangements and a full-blown rave.
