Operetta in three acts (1899)
Libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein
Music by Johann Strauss
Compiled, edited and completed by Adolf Müller Jr.
Strauss’ much-loved operetta Wiener Blut is a posthumous compilation by Adolf Müller Jr. based on the eponymous waltz (1873) and other works. The marriage between comtesse Gabriele and stiff-necked German count Balduin is a disaster. Gabriele flees to her native Vienna, where Balduin later arrives as an envoy. In no time flat, the inimitable flair of the city transforms him into a swashbuckling ladies’ man and all turns out well with Gabriele. Nikolaus Habjan’s racy production plays the outrageous plot for all it’s worth.
