Almost ever since Strauss wrote it, the Blue Danube has been Austria’s unofficial national anthem. In 2016, Ernst Molden dreamed up a sequel to the famous waltz with his song-cycle Schdrom (Austrian dialect for Strom, river). Born near the Danube, the river and its banks have always been a source of inspiration for him: “The animal sounds, the smell of mud, the light, the wind!” he enthuses. Join us on the MS Kaiserin Elisabeth to hear Molden’s off-beat tribute to the Danube, on the very waters he conjures up so originally.
