Break records and dance the waltz - join in and start the Vienna City Marathon in 3/4 time.
Waltz world record
Johann Strauss knew his way around world records. For almost 100 years, he held the record as ‘conductor of the largest orchestral concert’, with around 2,000 musicians, 18,000 choristers and around 60,000 visitors in Boston. 153 years later, Strauss is set to energise tens of thousands again. Together with the Vienna City Marathon and the Kraml dance school, we are inviting runners, professional dancers and spectators to dance the waltz of the same name on the beautiful blue Danube. Our goal: 2025 couples in three-four time. Dance enthusiasts are welcome to take part in this event and then cheer on the running enthusiasts at the Vienna City Marathon. The attempt will be certified by the Austrian Record Institute. The number of 1,966 dancing couples should be exceeded.

The Johann Strauss classification
In the middle of the Vienna Marathon field, 200 ‘Johann Strausses’ will compete in their own ranking. Their exclusive Johann Strauss outfits make these participants real eye-catchers. They can be spotted and loudly supported by the best Viennese spectators: Run, Schani, run! The fastest runners will be greeted with ‘Straussian’ surprises at the finish line near the Burgtheater. The sounds of the waltz will also create a lively atmosphere at several points along the route and make the runners feel at home.
