Description

At the beginning of spring, Victoria Coeln transforms Vienna's Stadtpark into a three-hectare walk-in work of light and media art for around two months. The light painting over the dark park landscape every evening with spectral colours, abstract lines and flower ornaments transforms not only the park's meadows, paths and trees, but also its visitors into elements of a real landscape painting. By using their own smartphones, the light artwork can be taken to a new level and transformed into a media artwork. A search game that raises the question of the visibility of women in public then and now.

The light-based flower spaces are the visual key for the specially created augmented reality artefacts. Seven female performers can be visualised directly on a smartphone in the middle of the park. Inspired by the courageous, decisive women from Strauss' operettas, the performers of our time not only have their say with their personal performative forms of expression, but also in their respective native languages. They confidently set an example of cultural diversity.

The LichtStrauss opening will take place on 21 March 2025 in the Gartnebaukino and afterwards in the Stadtpark.

Application notes for the AR

  1. Browser & AR services: iOS requires the WebXR Viewer, Android Google Play Services for AR (often pre-installed).
  2. Scan the QR code: If the wrong browser is installed, follow the instructions on the follow the instructions on the website.
  3. Place the artifact: Point camera at ground, wait for white circle, tap.

Augmented Reality can be accessed via your smartphone’s browser. However, due to operating system restrictions, you may need to install a dierent browser or AR service, depending on your device.

On iOS, the WebXR Viewer from the App Store is required and must be used to open AR. Android users should ensure Google Play Services for AR is installed – this is pre-installed on most devices. If unavailable in the Play Store, the device is unfortunately not compatible.

Once set up, scan the QR code. If the link opens in the wrong browser, follow the instructions on the Articial Museum website. After launching, select an artefact. When the camera view appears, point it at the oor and move slightly until a white circle appears. Tap it to place the artefact, which can then be viewed from all angles and interacted with.
