Johann Strauss’ death robbed Vienna of a genius whose life-affirming music was a constant source of reassurance and optimism. 125 years on, Oksana Lyniv from Ukraine directs a replica of the memorial concert headed by Richard Perger in January 1900. His setting of Bei uns z’Haus for mixed chorus graces a programme that showcases Strauss’ versatility, featuring choral pieces, waltzes and operettas next to an orchestral Traumbild and an excerpt from the unfinished Cinderella ballet.
