Leonard Eröd, born in 1977 in Graz into a family of musicians, received his first piano lessons at the age of 8 and began studying bassoon in 1990. After an engagement with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, he has been principal contrabassoonist with the ORF RSO Vienna since 2007 and is a regular guest with other orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the BR Symphony Orchestra. He plays in several chamber music ensembles (CrossNova Ensemble, Webern Wind Quintet, Fagotes Locos) and is also an enthusiastic music educator (myRSO Musiklabor, podcast “Warum Klassik”).
Eröd began arranging music for himself and his colleagues during his studies, always on the lookout for new forms (such as operas for children or combining a string quartet with cabaret). In addition to countless arrangements for his chamber music groups, he has also created several reductions of major operas in recent years (“Faust” by Gounod, Korngold's “Tote Stadt” or “Die Frau ohne Schatten” by R. Strauss).
