Johannes Prinz was born in 1958 in Wolfsberg, Austria. In 1982, he first took over the artistic direction of the Choir of the Vienna University of Economics and Business and, in 1988, that of the Chamber Choir of the Vienna Music University. From 1995 to February 2007, he was the artistic director of the Vienna Chamber Choir. In 1991, the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien engaged him as the choir master of the Wiener Singverein, which is considered one of the top international concert choirs. This reputation is evidenced by concerts with leading orchestras and the world’s best conductors, as well as invitations to festivals, international tours, and awards for recordings. As a guest conductor, Johannes Prinz has worked with the Bavarian Radio Choir, Berlin Radio Choir, Austrian State Opera Chorus, RIAS Kammerchor, State Choir Latvija, and others. He has also collaborated with the European Youth Choir and, in 2003, the World Youth Choir. Alongside his artistic work, Johannes Prinz has developed his educational activities. As a sought-after lecturer, he has taught at international and national choir master courses. From 2000 until 2023, he was the Professor of Choir Conducting at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz.
