inn.wien is not a traditional string orchestra, but rather a collective of young musicians with classical training. Founded in November 2020, it brings together professional musicians from around Innsbruck and Vienna. Since then, the ensemble has established itself as a sought-after musical entity within the Austrian music scene.
With courage and confidence, classical conventions are challenged, and conservative thinking is left behind. inn.wien stands for respectful collaboration and making music on an equal footing, for critical thinking and the constant search for new paths. These values, combined with a high musical standard, allow the musicians to creatively create innovative programs and unique interpretations.
In flexible formations, the ensemble has already interpreted works such as Bartók's Divertimento, Brahms' String Sextets, Schubert's String Quintet, Mendelssohn's Octet, Grieg's Holberg Suite, as well as several world premieres by composers such as Hanna Kallestad, Anna Reisigl, Martin Ohrwalder, and others. Additionally, the ensemble maintains a close relationship with the jazz trio Drehwerk – where progressive string sounds meet homemade jazz. In the fall of 2024, they released their first joint album with new music: LOST INSIDE.
In the 24/25 season, the ensemble will present the music theater production What on Earth! in collaboration with the Wiener Konzerthaus and Jeunesse.
