Florian Hurler was born in Augsburg and trained at the Academie de Dance Classique Monaco, the Ballet Centre Hamburg and the Heinz Bosl Foundation in Munich. In 1997, he was awarded the Advancement Award of the City of Augsburg. He worked with the Leipzig Ballet under Uwe Scholz from 2000 to 2004 and with the Vienna State Ballet from 2004 to 2013, where he became rehearsal director in 2011. As a choreographer, he has worked for the Bregenz Festival (Kehraus um St. Stephan), the Theater an der Wien (Serse) and the Wiener Festwochen (JOIN) to name a few. He regularly creates choreographies for festivals such as the Steyr Music Festival (West Side Story, Cabaret, Chicago). In the 2014/15 season, he joined Volksoper Wien as dance director and assistant choreographer for the ensemble and chorus. At Volksoper Wien he also works as a choreographer and director: Sweeney Todd, Powder Her Face, Lass uns die Welt vergessen, Im weißen Rössl (choreography), Aristocats, Nurejews Hund (director and choreography), La rondine (co-director of Lotte de Beer).
