Diana Ammann is a Swiss contemporary artist, costume and creature designer based in Basel, Switzerland.
Her work spans across various mediums, from designing costumes and masks for stage productions to collaborating with brands, designers, musicians, and photographers for styling photo and video shoots.
Her passion lies in creating imaginative creatures that challenge societal norms and celebrate diversity. Under her label “Imaginary Friends & Creatures,” Ammann brings to life a colorful community of quirky characters. These inhabitants, ranging from shy to charming, cocky to mysterious, vulnerable to friendly, illustrate a sense of standing out and not belonging, questioning everyday norms and realities. Wearing masks and headpieces, they blur distinctions between gender, age, and species. With humor and extravagance, the creatures expose the absurdities of daily life and challenge the boundaries of normality. Through mingling with humans and fostering connections between all beings, they celebrate the love inherent in diversity.
The designer often works with pre-existing materials such as second-hand clothes or objects, transforming them into imaginative creations.
