
Alireza Daryanavard is a performance artist, director and author born in Iran. In addition to his work as an actor and director, which has taken him to stages across Iran and to numerous festivals, he has also taught up-and-coming talent and set up an underground theatre.
He has lived in Austria since 2014. Since then, he has performed as an actor and musician in various theatres, including the Volkstheater Wien as part of the Wiener Festwochen, WERK X-Petersplatz, Dschungel Wien, Brunnenpassage, Theater Akzent, Theater Drachengasse and internationally in France, Spain, Slovenia, Poland, Germany and Ukraine.
In 2020, he founded the theatre collective Hybrid, which he has led ever since. With the collective, he has developed a theatre practice that is closely linked to political activism and research work.
In 2017, he received the Start Scholarship for Performing Arts from the Austrian Federal Chancellery. In 2020, he was nominated for the NESTROY Theatre Prize in the category Best Young Male Artist as an author and director. In 2022 he was nominated for the NESTROY Theatre Prize in the Special Prize category with the play ASYL TRIBUNAL - KLAGE GEGEN DIE REPUBLIK.
He has been a member of the Advisory Board for Performing Arts of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture since 2022. His artistic journey took him to the Berliner Ensemble for the 2023/2024 season, where he was a scholarship holder as part of the WORX international programme for young directors.
