
The Austrian mezzo-soprano Anna-Katharina Tonauer began her vocal training at the "Musikschule Innsbruck" with Matthias Drievko. In 2015, she completed her studies at the WUniversität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien" with Gabriele Fontana and Karlheinz Hanser with distinction. She received groundbreaking inspiration from masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Anne Sofie von Otter, Helmut Deutsch and Leopold Spitzer, among others.
Anna-Katharina Tonauer gained her first operatic experience at the "Schlossfestspiele Langenlois" as Haiderl in “Das Dreimäderlhaus” and at the festival summer “JOpera” in Jennersdorf as the Second Lady in “Die Zauberflöte” and Hänsel in “Hänsel und Gretel”. At "isaOpera Vienna", the mezzo-soprano performed the role of Cherubino (“Le nozze di Figaro”) and the role of Dorabella (“Così fan tutte”).
In 2014, she was awarded 1st prize at Musica Juventutis and subsequently performed a recital program at the "Wiener Konzerthaus". In 2015, she won the 3rd International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition Vienna. In 2017, she was a guest of the Styriarte and the Lech Classic Festival. In 2018, she was a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Munich.
She has been a member of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz ensemble since the 2016/2017 season. Her roles there include Angelina and Tisbe (“La Cenerentola”), Hansel and Sandman (“Hansel and Gretel”), Dorabella (“Così fan tutte”), Second Lady (“The Magic Flute”), Nancy (“Martha”), Maddalena (“Rigoletto”), Lucy (“The Threepenny Opera”), Olga (“Eugene Onegin”), Smeton (“Anna Bolena”), Caroline Helmer (“Schubert's Journey to Atzenbrugg”), Rosina (“The Barber of Seville”) and The Muse / Niklas (“The Tales of Hoffmann”).
Guest engagements have taken the young singer to the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern and the Stadttheater Heilbronn in the title role of “La Cenerentola”, to the Frankfurt Opera as Tisbe (“La Cenerentola”), to the Styriarte Graz as Primavera (“La Gloria di Primavera”) and to Salzburg, Linz, Graz and Vienna as Dorabella.
