Walter Vogelweider from Graz trained as a stage designer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and has been working as a freelance stage designer since 1990. Even during his studies, he worked with artists such as Martin Kušej, Hans Hoffer, Elfriede Jelinek and Hans Werner Henze.

 

He also designed several national exhibitions and created objects such as the installation “The Old Lady” for Erste Bank and “The Installation in the Old General Hospital” in Vienna. He also designed a family adventure park with Thomas Brezina and designed an exhibition for the Forum Alpbach on behalf of the Seibersdorf Research Center.

 

In addition to stage sets for numerous theater productions in German-speaking and Asian countries, Walter Vogelweider has also developed sets for events, collaborating with personalities such as Joe Zawinul, Ennio Morricone, Mikis Theodorakis, Renato Zanella and Peter Ustinov.

 

The artist's field of activity is very broad and ranges from classics such as Shakespeare, Lessing, Ibsen and Schiller to contemporary literature such as Achternbusch and Jelinek. He also works as a set designer for operas, operettas and musicals.

 

From 2002 to 2012, he was responsible for the Stockerau Summer Festival as technical director and stage designer. As art director, he has developed numerous creations and concepts for major events and adventure worlds, such as the “Voestival”, an evening event for 4,000 visitors, or “Adventure Mountains”, a staged adventure world for children in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, which was awarded a prize by the tourism association. Walter Vogelweider was also a partner and managing director of “Vogelweider & Co. KG”, a company that positioned itself as an interdisciplinary interface between marketing and neuroeconomics and developed target group-oriented design.
