Tenor

The Austrian tenor, born in St. Pölten, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Florian Boesch, Rainer Trost and Michael Schade among others. He attended masterclasses with Claudia Visca and Kurt Widmer. In the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons, Johannes Bamberger was a member of the Young Ensemble at Theater an der Wien, where he has since been a regular guest. In 2024, he appeared there in Moutalka's Hamed and Sherifa as well as at the Wiener Kammeroper in Shakespeare's Richard III with music by Purcell. The same year, he embodied the role of Don Ottavio in a new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni as part of the newly founded "Opernsommer" festival in front of the Belvedere in Vienna. In addition to his work as a freelance opera singer, Johannes Bamberger has developed a broad repertoire as a sought-after lied and oratorio singer. He has performed Bach's Passions at the Festspielhaus St. Pölten, Grafenegg, Madrid and, as the Evangelist in Bach's Christmas Oratorio, most recently in Gran Canaria and Hamburg. With Neuwirth's The Outcast, he made his debut at the Wien Modern Festival, at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2018 and at the Philharmonie de Paris in 2022. In the 21/22 season, he debuted at the Vienna Musikverein with Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Creation. At the same venue, he also performed Bach cantatas under Stefan Gottfried. At the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, he appeared on stage in recitals with Robert Holl, to name a few. He also performed Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin at the Schubert Festival in Großraming in 2023. Johannes Bamberger has a long-standing collaboration with the Harnoncourt Tage in St. Georgen, where he will be performing for the fourth time. In the 24/25 season, Johannes Bamberger will make his debut at the Brucknerfest in Linz with Bruckner's Mass in D minor.

At the Vienna Musikverein, he took on the tenor solo in the Austrian premiere of Britten's Ballad of Heroes.
