Sofia Labropoulou is a kanun player, improviser and composer who has developed a distinctive sound by masterfully combining the worlds of Eastern Mediterranean folk music, classical Ottoman music, Western medieval music, experimental and contemporary music.
As a soloist, she collaborates with renowned composers, musicians and orchestras from all over the world, composes music and offers Kanun and Greek folk music masterclasses worldwide.
Her first personal album ‘Sisyphus’ was released in December 2020 (by Odradek Records). She is currently finalising the recording of her first solo kanun album ‘Spiral’.
She is the artistic director of the music series Unbounded Sounds (https://unboundedsounds.com)
